Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 18, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Rove, Inc. ("Rove", "we", "us") collects when you use Rove, how we use it, and the choices you have. Rove is a service that lets you stream your own PC's screen and audio to a browser on another device.
What we collect
We collect only what we need to run the service:
- Account information - your full name, email address, username (handle), and an optional avatar URL. Your password is stored only as a salted hash; we never store or see your plaintext password.
- Device information - when you install Rove and sign in on a PC, we record a random machine identifier generated for that install, a device name you choose, and basic hardware details (operating system, GPU, CPU). We also store the IP address the device last connected from and its online status.
- Connection information - presence and connection state, so the service knows which of your devices are online and can route a session to the right place.
- Diagnostic reports - if the app crashes, it can send a crash report. These reports are scrubbed to remove IP addresses, email addresses, and Windows profile paths before they leave your machine.
What we do not collect
Your screen, games, applications, and files are not uploaded to Rove. They stay on your PC. A stream runs peer-to-peer between your PC and the viewing device where possible, and your session is encrypted end to end. We do not sell your personal information and do not use it for advertising.
How we use information
- To create and secure your account and sign you in.
- To register and identify your devices and route sessions between them.
- To send account email, such as verification codes and password reset links.
- To diagnose crashes and improve the service.
- To meet legal and security obligations.
Service providers
We share limited information with third parties who help us operate Rove:
- Email delivery - transactional email (verification codes, reset links) is sent through Resend.
- Hosting and networking - our backend and web content are hosted behind Cloudflare and on our infrastructure, and a relay server may carry a stream when a direct peer-to-peer connection is not possible.
When a stream is relayed, the relay forwards encrypted traffic but does not store your session. We never sell your data to these providers.
Storage and security
Account and device data is stored on our servers. Passwords are hashed with Argon2; session and reset tokens are stored only as hashes, so a database leak cannot mint new sessions. We use transport encryption (TLS) for API and signaling traffic and encrypt stream traffic end to end. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we apply reasonable safeguards to protect your information.
Local storage
When you sign in, the web viewer stores your session tokens in your browser's local storage so you stay signed in. We do not use cookies for tracking or advertising. You can clear this data at any time through your browser, which will sign you out.
Data retention
We keep account and device information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete the associated account, device, and friend data. Diagnostic reports are retained only as long as needed to investigate the issue.
Your choices
- Access and correct - update your name, handle, and avatar from your account settings.
- Delete - delete your account to remove your information.
- Control your devices - you decide who can connect to your PC and can end a session at any time.
Children
Rove is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of Rove after a change means you accept the updated policy.
